How do I install Umbrella on my store?
To install Umbrella on your Shopify store, follow these steps:
Install the App
Find “Umbrella Product Protection” on the Shopify App Store and click Add app. After installation, you’ll be prompted to choose a subscription plan.
Add the Required Components
To enable full functionality, you'll need to add the following four components:
1. Umbrella App Extension
This enables app blocks for modern Shopify 2.0 themes. It’s required for using the drag-and-drop UI inside your theme editor.
2. Product Page (PDP) App Extension Embed
For Shopify 2.0 themes, this lets you drag and drop the warranty widget onto the product page and adjust its styling. If you're using an older theme, the default Umbrella JS will handle PDP display automatically.
3. Warranties Page App Extension Embed
This adds a dedicated "Your Warranties" section in Customer Accounts, where customers can view covered items and access the "File a Claim" page. If your theme doesn't support app blocks, a manual install is required.
4. Line Item Warranty App Extension Embed
This checks order history in the customer account for warranty-eligible items and displays coverage status, expiration, and a “File a Claim” button under each line item. For older or non-2.0 themes, a manual setup is needed.
If you're using a legacy theme or one that doesn't support app extensions, manual installation is possible using code snippets. Instructions are available in the Umbrella dashboard, or your developer can assist.
